Economics of Mutuality Wins at For Good Awards in China
November 2022
Two Economics of Mutuality initiatives, outlined below, were recongized by the For Good Awards on November 30th 2022 at the annual China Social Enterprises and Impact Investing Forum, which attracted 7.6 million viewers online over the course of two days. The first and one of the top national social innovation awards schemes, the For Good Awards celebrate the very best social enterprises, impact investing organizations, and business for good enterprises in China.
The letter for ‘mutuality’ in Chinese is ‘互’, which symbolizes two hands holding each other. It refers to a core principle in Confucianism that emphasizes social harmony in relationships whereby ‘each one should be aware of his own role and responsibilities in society and fulfill them well’.

Top 10 Academic Studies of the Year
The Chinese edition of Putting Purpose Into Practice: the Economics of Mutuality, first published in English by Oxford University Press in 2021 and then released by China Translation and Publishing House (中国中译出版社) in mid-2022, was given the Top 10 Academic Studies of the Year award.
Edited by Oxford Professor Colin Mayer and EoM Founder and former Mars Chief Economist Bruno Roche, the book was selected among 9 other joint winners by 85 experts from over 500 entries. The award honors and encourages the study and practice of solving social and environmental problems at scale with innovative business models and the setting of industry benchmarks.
The book includes breakthrough theoretical developments and practical case studies across geographies and business situations. The co-editors hope it will trigger a great interest among Chinese-speaking leaders committed to the Common Prosperity agenda — and encourage them to join, contribute to, and further develop the Economics of Mutuality movement with Chinese characteristics.
