Motley Fool Foundation Celebrates One Year Anniversary
April 2023
The Economics of Mutuality (EoM) team is pleased to congratulate The Motley Fool Foundation on the occasion of its one year anniversary this April 1st.
On a mission to create pathways to financial freedom for those living paycheck to paycheck, the US-based public charity was established by the leadership of The Motley Fool, an innovative and purpose-driven firm that has been offering free and premium investing guidance since 1997.
With two-thirds of Americans either just financially coping or financially vulnerable, The Motley Fool Foundation believes it is possible to co-design an inclusive system where everyone has a seat at the table and benefits from a flourishing economy.
Over the past year, the new foundation has built bridges, amplified and invested in inspiring entrepreneurs, and created the Fools for Good campaign. It has also been preparing to launch an exciting new pilot in Greater Greenville, SC aimed at building financially free communities at the local level.
Jay Jakub, Director of the EoM Foundation and Chief of Staff of the EoM platform, was part of a task force that supported the formation of The Motley Fool Foundation. He offered advice alongside other purpose-led experts including Marla Blow, President and COO of the Skoll Foundation, Bob Hitt, North American Lead of Salesforce, and Sean Milliken, Former Head of Global Social Innovation at PayPal. David Gardner, Chairman of The Motley Fool Foundation and Co-Founder of The Motley Fool, is a long-time friend and ally of the EoM team. He recorded a Rule Breaker Investing podcast about EoM with Jay Jakub in 2020, which you can listen to here. He also participated in a case study session about The Motley Fool at the Oxford EoM Virtual Forum in the same year, the recording of which you can watch here.
Alongside his Motley Fool roles, David Gardner is a Board Member of Conscious Capitalism, a movement that empowers leaders to use business as a force for good. Over the years, the EoM team have been invited on a number of occasions to present at Conscious Capitalism events. Most recently, Gavin Long, Executive Director of the EoM platform and Co-founder and Partner of Acacia Group, shared a keynote slot with Jay Jakub at the annual Conscious Capitalism CEO Summit in Texas. The recording is available to watch back here.
We are inspired by the progress The Motley Fool Foundation has made in delivering economic transformation over the past twelve months and look forward with great anticipation to the further societal impact it will have in the years to come.
